I'm vegetarian; lacto- ovo vegetarian to be exact. Lacto meaning I consume dairy and ovo meaning i eat eggs. With cheese it can't have an enzyme called "rennet". That comes from the baby cows stomachs and aides in their digestion of their mother's milk.
For eggs, I only eat from cage free and free range hens.
Once I made the decision to go vegetarian, after getting sick twice in a row from meat, it was easy for me. I set the date, think it was just a day or two later, I had my last meal of meat and never turned back. That was 2 years ago.
Learning where you can eat out with other non vegetarians is the only challenging part. But now a days so many people are vegetarians that just about everywhere has something u can eat. The other thing is knowing whats in your food. Scientific names disguise what things really are.
There is an easy list u can print and take with u when u shop. I can e-mail u some helpful info.
First thing i did was find out if my fave things to eat were vegetarian or not. Surprisingly u can simply google something like "are
pop tarts vegetarian ?" and u can almost always find the answer quite easily.
There are so many meat substitutes that you don't have to miss out on anything. If you have a whole foods nearby, they are the easiest place to shop. I hope this helps you get started. I am always here for support, as that can be the toughest part of it. I'll email this to you too as it's so long that it may cut off. Love you! Happy you made such a wonderful an healthy decision!!
